VAT partial revision 2025

The partial revision of the VAT Act and the VAT Ordinances will come into force on January 1, 2025

VAT has been a recurring topic in recent years, with some adjustments being made and the rate increases in 2024 being the subject of heated political and social debate. VAT will also remain a hot topic in 2025. The partial revision of the VAT Act and the VAT Ordinance will come into force on January 1, 2025. Both minor and major adjustments will be made in various areas. Below is a brief overview:

  • Introduction of platform taxation (affects online mail order platforms)
  • Tax corrections when switching between the net tax rate and the effective accounting method
  • Adjustments to balance and flat-rate tax rates
  • Reduced tax rate for monthly hygiene articles
  • Option for annual billing
  • Purchase tax liability for emission rights, allowances and certificates for emission reductions
  • Various changes in healthcare, travel agencies and cultural events

Platform taxation is the most important element of the partial revision, but will probably only directly affect a few SMEs in their day-to-day business. Nevertheless, this will be an interesting topic for society as a large proportion of the population now shops online and will therefore be confronted with the changes. For SMEs, on the other hand, the adjustments to the balance rates and the new option of annual billing are likely to be interesting. We will inform our customers individually about the changes to the net tax rates at the end of the year. If you have any questions, we will be happy to advise you personally.
